Boishakh is a Bengali tradition
Bengali New Year is a celebration of the life of Bengalis. The festival is celebrated on the holy Boishakh. Wherever there are Bengalis in the world, they all celebrate Bengali New Year in a festive atmosphere. Once upon a time in Bangladesh, ‘Punyah’ was celebrated in a grand manner. Now Halkhata, Mangal Shobhayatra, Kavigan, Kirtan, Jatra, Baishakhi Mela, recitation-dance-song are sung all over the country. Sports like boating, hadudu, bullfighting, cockfighting etc. are organized in some areas. A small three-day ‘Vaisabi’ festival is celebrated by a small ethnic group. Scholars believe that the Mughal emperor Akbar introduced the Bengali year. This day is for joy and happiness as well as for mutual exchange and good wishes. We say to each other, "Happy New Year." On this day, panta-ilish has been eaten in urban areas lately. People of all ages rejoice in the Bengali New Year after wearing new or beautiful clothes. Bengali New Year is now our main national festival.
Bangladesh's socio-cultural relations with Boishakh are as important as their economic relations. Pahela Boishakh and New Year raise the victory flag of Bengalis in the sky. This victory of Bengalis is the victory of culture. The result of this cultural victory is this universal festival of Bengalis irrespective of religion, caste or creed. Like every year, this year in the capital Dhaka, the New Year of Bengalis will start with the New Year celebration of Chayanat in Ramna. This event too has now become a Bengali tradition. The tradition is due to the fact that during the Pakistani rule, New Year celebrations were considered as a foreign culture. Ignoring the bloody eyes of the Pakistani rulers, in 1969, Chayanat organized a New Year celebration at the base of Ramna. Thousands of Bengalis joined it. On this day a renaissance took place in the field of Bengali culture. Millions of people have fled their homes. New Year means renaissance. I remember the old Bengali tradition from the city or go back to the tradition. Bengali women dress beautifully in Ramna Batamul or Dhanmondi Lake, men also become the bearers of Bengali culture on this day. On this day we buy drums and play loudly, we inflate balloons in the open sky, we put marigolds and roses in Priya's hut. I became very fond of Bengali songs.
Let's all build our own nest in the atmosphere of Baishakhi Mela. There will be no artificiality in that nest. It will not be bad for everyone except good. The identity of a real Bengali will not die if we can build a better life and keep the memories of the past alive in our minds.
We hope that in the new year, the life of every person in the country will be filled with happiness and prosperity, and the reputation of the country and the nation will spread further in the international arena.
